A PROFESSOR NOT A POLITICIAN

“It’s time for a change. It’s time for a Professor, not a Politician on the College Board.  I’m a committed educator, husband, father, and community leader and I am running for College Board to serve our community.  SMC has a profound impact on Santa Monica and Malibu.  I will prioritize our community by ensuring that our local community college best serves the needs of our local students and residents.

This election, Prof. O is the Way to Go!”

Serving the Needs of Local Students and Residents

Currently local students make up only 5% of SMC graduates even though Santa Monica and Malibu taxpayers contribute over 40% of SMC’s overall budget through five local bonds. These numbers don’t add up. I pledge to strengthen the partnership between SMC and SMMUSD, fight for free tuition for Santa Monica residents, and expand internships and employment opportunities for students with local companies.

Improve the Achievement Gap and Achieve Real Student Equity

I will fight to improve retention and graduation rates among local students and all students of color by implementing targeted student aid programs to underrepresented students, as well as mandatory equity training programs for faculty and staff.

Fiscal Responsibility

I will provide greater budget and bond oversight to ensure money is spent responsibly and there is greater transparency and accountability in the governance of bonds and communications to residents
